We regret to inform you of the passing of Tyson Downs at the age of 32. Tyson was born in Lumberton, North Carolina and lived there his entire life. He attended Lumberton High School and was a standout athlete in football, basketball, and track & field.
Tyson overcame several challenges throughout his life, but no matter what he endured he was always able to go back to his passion, playing sports. After high school, Tyson obtained a football scholarship from East Carolina University. He went on to pursue his dreams and was a part of the team for four years.
Tyson’s impact on the game was felt both on and off the field. He was acknowledged and respected among his teammates and coaches. When the game was over, Tyson was always the first to greet the crowd behind the end zone. It was here that he would thank God for every moment on the field.
The family of Tyson Downs wish to extend their heartfelt thanks for all the support and love. Tyson was beloved by many and his legacy will forever be remembered. He will be dearly missed.
A memorial service for Tyson will be held at the Lumberton Family Funeral Home on Saturday, July 28th at 3:00 PM. Tyson’s family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Teal Dazzle Foundation which helps provide scholarships to high school athletes.
