The Spokesperson of the Stray Dog Problem Platform, Lawyer Devrim Koçak, said that a website called “Havrita Com” was opened, in which the whereabouts of dog herds and attacking stray dogs are determined and statistics are kept.

In a statement to the AA correspondent, Koçak stated that the platform was established after high school student Mehmet Özer died in January 2019 after being attacked by 25 stray dogs in Kayseri.

Explaining that there is currently a threat from stray dogs on the streets, and that there are people who were injured and even lost their lives, Koçak noted that the platform is working to find a solution.

Arguing that every institution in Turkey gives a different number for stray and stray dogs, and that there is no clear statistical information, Koçak said that the latest official institutions have stated that 90 thousand stray dogs in Ankara, 128 thousand 900 in Istanbul, and 450 thousand stray dogs in Izmir. stated that it was announced.

Expressing that they estimate that there are 10 million stray dogs across Turkey as a platform, Koçak said that the dogs on the street are not breeds that were first adopted and then left on the street.

Lawyer Koçak drew attention to the fact that there are mostly large, strong species that are prone to ganging up and roaming in herds, such as hunting, guard and farm dogs.

Mentioning that they developed a website to protect people against gangs on the streets, Koçak said that a volunteer on the platform entered information on Google Maps in July 2021 and marked the places where there was a dog gang and attack, but he could not dwell on this work much at that time.

Explaining that after the death of 10-year-old Mahra Melin Pınar, who was run away from the stray dogs as a result of the incident in Antalya on 5 March, she passed away, Koçak continued as follows:

“Havrita is a web application. This is a stray dog ​​map. This application is a user-friendly application. When you log in to the Havrita Com, you do not need to register with the name ‘Havrita’. You have seen the dog herd.

You take a picture of it, you determine your location, you throw it there. If you are attacked, We were attacked.’ You upload a photo, the location… So the map shows users where there is a pack of dogs, where there is an attack, with emojis or something like this. It’s like a dog attack here, a pack of dogs here…”

Emphasizing that Havrita is an application created entirely by users, Koçak said, “Havrita Com offers that map as a location provider, the user enters it and uploads this information. We put it into practice on May 11 with the contributions of our volunteer friend. Later on, ‘Android’ and We will make it as an application for ‘iOS’. Noting that there is a high interest in the application, and that the most visitors to the website are from Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya and Izmir, Koçak stated that there are also those from Kocaeli, Adana, Bursa, Çanakkale, Tekirdağ and Konya.

Explaining that with the application, where the herds of dogs are located in Turkey and a statistics are kept, Koçak stated that they received positive feedback from the municipalities at this point.

Koçak stated that people who see a herd of dogs or who have been attacked by a stray dog ​​enter the necessary information on the “Havrita Com” address, and that those who pass by that way will pay more attention to this.
