HAYS COUNTY, TEXAS – Residents of Hays County, Texas, are breathing a sigh of relief as firefighters made significant progress containing the out-of-control wildfire that has been burning in the area since Wednesday. The Texas Forest Service reported recently that the Hays County Fire was approximately 20% contained, with no further spread anticipated across the county.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but firefighters believe it was sparked by campers who did not properly extinguish the campfire they started in the county. Fire crews have worked quickly to contain the fire, and fortunately, no homes or businesses have been destroyed by the blaze.
Currently, over 150 firefighters and support staff from across the state are actively working to insure that the fire is completely contained, with assistance from four helicopters for water drops. Additional firefighters will be arriving on the scene in the coming hours to help.
