We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Katie Spikes, who passed away on April 9, 2021. Katie was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, friend, and mentor. Through her example, she left a lasting impression on all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Katie was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1941 to Robert and Martha Spikes. She attended Iowa State University, where she earned both her undergraduate and master’s degree. After college, she took a job as a social worker with the St. Louis County Department of Public Services. From there, she went on to become Director of Social Services at Central Missouri Community College.
Katie was passionate about helping people and dedicated her life to doing just that. Over the years, she mentored countless students, both in college and in her community, inspiring them to follow their dreams and never give up on themselves.
In addition to her inspiring words, Katie was also well known for her kind and generous spirit. She always had a smile on her face and was quick to lend an ear and offer advice to whoever needed it. She was a true beacon of love and light, and her presence will be greatly missed.
Katie is survived by her two children, four grandchildren, and numerous friends and family. A memorial service will be held in her honor next Saturday, April 17, at Central Missouri Community College. Please join us in honoring her life and celebrating her legacy.
